UNITED WAY TO HOST A DRIVE TO COLLECT GIFT CARDS FOR THOSE IN NEED IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY!

Local people are coming together to make a local impact by showing their #LocalLove.

On December 3rd, United Way of Northern BC (UWNBC) will be hosting a gift card collection drive. People in Prince George are urged to drop off gift cards for various types of businesses to support those in need in the Prince George community. Recommended types of cards are for groceries and warm meals, clothing, general household supplies, books, and gas cards.

For every gift card donated, donors will receive a coupon for a warm drink – provided by McDonald’s on Massey – to either keep or give back to be given to those living in poverty to use as the months get colder.

The holiday season can amplify the already distressing situation for those finding it hard to make ends meet.  Through this initiative, UWNBC aims to help the less fortunate individuals and families get the essential items, including groceries, clothing, kids’ items, etc. and bring some joy and happiness during the most joyful time of the year. The gift cards are definitely not the permanent solution to the difficulties of life, but they sure will help them get through the holidays season with a bit of ease.

People willing to help can drop the gift cards on Friday, December 3rd, between 9 am – 7 pm, at the United Way of Northern BC’s office located at 1675 15th Avenue, Prince George – V2N 3X2. If people are not able to drop their donations off at our office on the day of the collection drive, they can still drop them off any time before December 23rd at our office during weekdays between 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.

The gift cards collection drive is a part of the United Way Tree of Lights campaign. A massive tree atop Coast Prince George Hotel by APA will be lit string-by-string as the donations come in. In addition to the collection drive, the UWNBC has a goal to raise $50,000 to support the vital social service programming and fill the gaps that the pandemic has intensified in the social service sector in Prince George.

Weekly Tree of Lights Draw

We have added a bit of the holiday zing to the campaign this year. In the spirit of giving, for 24 days (started on November 29th), a unique prize from a local business will be unveiled daily, leading to a weekly draw every Monday of the campaign. For each donation of $25, donors will be entered into a draw to win these exciting #LocalLove packages. The more you donate, the larger the impact you’ll make and the more chances you’ll have to win!
