United Way of Northern BC (UWNBC) provides $97,000 to non-profit agencies throughout Northern BC through Coastal GasLink Legacy Fund!
In times of worries and uncertainties, 11 non-profit agencies in Northern BC will receive a portion of the funds raised through the Coastal GasLink Legacy Fund, which was developed to support the communities that support the people who work and live in 16 communities along the Coastal GasLink project route. The funding comes at a time when many non-profit agencies, working at their full capacity, have almost exhausted their available resources and need continued support to ensure they are able to support our most vulnerable.

After a thorough assessment of the applications and recommendations made by a committee of community stakeholders from across Northern BC, $97,000 has been allocated to these agencies for programs and services that support food security, poverty & social assistance, and mental health & addictions.
The funding has been made available through the generosity of Coastal GasLink and their community-minded prime contractors – Surerus Murphy Joint Venture, SA Energy Group, Pacific Atlantic Pipeline Construction (PAPC), Macro Spiecapag Joint Venture, Ledcor-Haisla Limited Partnership, and Aecon Group Inc.. These wonderfully generous organizations, and the people within, have joined in the commitment to support their communities by raising an incredible $97,000 through this initiative.
The Coastal GasLink Legacy Fund aims to remove barriers by providing funding to recipients to address socioeconomic issues facing their local community. The fund is administered as a partnership between the United Way of Northern BC (UWNBC) and Coastal GasLink in a matter consistent with the UWNBC mission and funding areas and Coastal GasLink’s priority to help people and communities experiencing socioeconomic challenges in Northern BC.
“Due to the generosity of Coastal GasLink and its prime contractors, as well as their parent company, TC Energy, we have been able to make a real impact in communities across Northern BC with this fund! With this contribution reaching people who need support with food security services, family literacy, youth mental health, domestic violence, rehabilitative services, and more, we know it’s going to make a positive difference for so many who are in need,” says Trista Spencer, Executive Director, United Way of Northern BC. “We are so grateful to be partnered in this wonderful initiative! It’s an incredible demonstration of the amazing things we can do when we come together.”
“Coastal GasLink is committed to being a good neighbour and leaving a legacy in communities along the project route. Northern BC communities have many different needs and the United Way of Northern BC is able to provide immediate support to help address these needs. With this donation Coastal GasLink is proud to be able to help organizations continue the important work that they do each and every day” said Kent Wilfur, Vice-President of Project Delivery for Coastal GasLink. “We’re pleased to be able to help individuals in communities across the North.”
