A little bit about Lorna…
Born in Smithers, brought up in Granisle, and predominantly vacationed in the Northwest region of BC, she always wanted to work and serve the communities in the Northwest. Her urge to change lives by connecting resources to the needs has enabled many nonprofit organizations to get the support they need and continue running the critical programs in the local communities.
Lorna understands the challenges that are being faced in Northern BC due to the rural and remote nature of the large majority of communities. With Lorna’s history and passion for the Northwest region, and her proven ability to connect with local community partners through providing temporary coverage in this sub-region for the past year, it was an obvious fit for Lorna to formally step in to the role.
Lorna is married with 2 children, the youngest one studying at University. She has a diverse experience that includes 3 years in the Mining Industry, 5 years in the Transportation Industry, and 13 years in a Financial Institution where she became involved with the United Way of Northern BC to help those in need through Day of Caring projects and Employee Giving Campaigns. She has always been passionate about the work that United Way does to support the most vulnerable segment of the population and in her tenure of just over a year with United Way, she has helped bring an extraordinary change in the communities she has served.
We are delighted to make it “official” and have Lorna as our Resource Development Officer – North Central/Northwest!
