In the wake of the recent wildfires devastating Northern BC, United Way of Northern BC has created an Urgent Response Fund. This fund aims to provide immediate assistance to communities affected by the wildfires. Utilizing our regional connections and our network of over 1000 agency contacts, we aim to swiftly identify gaps in community resources related to wildfire response. We’re working cohesively with local responders and our corporate partners to ensure an effective response.
Our Urgent Response Fund is open to registered charities operating in Northern British Columbia within the footprint of United Way of Northern BC, specifically those providing social services directly or indirectly affected by the wildfires. We encourage applications related to wildfire response, recovery, or resilience. This could include re-establishing community resources burnt by the fire, assisting with renovations not covered by insurance, increasing service offered at an outreach store, providing direct resources to clients, and more. Please note, programs or services limited to particular religious or political groups, for-profit agencies, or debt repayments or loss of revenue, are not eligible.
To apply, send an email to apply@unitedwaynbc.ca outlining your request. Please include your agency name, contact details, the community/communities impacted, an outline of the request for funding, and the total funding requested.
Successful applicants will be required to sign a letter of agreement and provide a brief report on the use of the funding by October 31, 2023. Click here to submit a report.
For any inquiries, please call us at 250-561-1040 or email us at info@unitedwaynbc.ca.
In addition to the fund, we have also mobilized volunteers to provide support where needed. Individuals and groups can sign up as prospective volunteers through our website.
