Success By 6Success By 6 ®

What Is It?

SUCCESS By 6® is an early childhood development initiative in over 300 communities in North America.

It is a community based partnership of individuals and organizations that share a common vision - that:

    1. Children are ready to succeed when they enter school.
    2. Results oriented - Success By 6® is rooted in the belief that a community working together towards a common vision can generate an affective plan to improve results for children.
    3. Focused on prevention.

No two SUCCESS By 6® initiatives are exactly alike; however the goals in BC are:

    1. To build community capacity to support an accessible, comprehensive range of early childhood development services for children (0-6) and their families.
    2. To mobilize and leverage resources towards an accessible, comprehensive range of early childhood development services for children (0-6) and their families.
    3. To raise awareness of the importance of the early years and increase public support of early childhood development as a community priority.

Most SUCCESS By 6® initiatives are governed by a cross-sectoral Council of Partners.

The "Success Criteria"

Regions/Communities will:

Develop a Council of Partners at the regional/sub-regional or community level involving Lead Partners (United Ways, Credit Unions, MCFD) and other "champions for children" (ECD service providers, representatives from business, labour, government, education, health, social services, and others).

Conduct (or build upon) community research on ECD services and gaps;

Develop an ECD strategy, which includes plans for:

  • Service delivery
  • Public awareness
  • Fundraising
  • Funding allocation
  • Service evaluation and accountability

Regional/Community Councils of Partners will:

  • Confirm SUCCESS By 6® priorities
  • Allocate SUCCESS By 6® funds according to identified priorities and criteria
  • Implement a public awareness plan to advance ECD as a community priority
  • Implement a fundraising plan to support the identified SUCCESS By 6® priorities
