Canfor Gives Generous Donation

Article from CKPG Today.

The United Way of Northern BC received a sizable donation last week. During last Wednesday’s hockey game of the Prince George Cougars, Canfor gave a $315,000 contribution to help support numerous programs in different communities throughout BC and Alberta. Part of that support will go into the programs that are up in northern BC. The funds raised came from things like barbeques, 50/50 draws and payroll donations.
“This is a great example of individuals stepping up to be the hand raisers and game changers our vulnerable citizens need to achieve self-sufficiency,” says Roberta Squire, United Way of Northern BC CEO.

About United Way of Northern […]

Prince George, B.C – Canfor’s $315,000 donation will help support hundreds of programs in the many communities that are local to Canfor employees in BC and Alberta, including several in northern BC.

The United Way of Northern BC was presented with a sizable donation by Canfor on the ice at last night’s Prince George Cougar’s hockey game.

In addition to the United Way of Northern BC, Canfor’s fundraising efforts also benefit the United Way Thompson Nicola Cariboo, United Way East Kootenay, United Way Lower Mainland and United Way Alberta Northwest chapters.

United Way of Northern BC’s $100 Pens

Peter Baird, General Manager of Forest Planning at Canfor, loves the pens handed out during United Way of Northern BC’s workplace campaign. Peter said, “I almost exclusively use United Way pens. I like the way they fit my hand – I do a pile of writing for my work, and other pens create pain.”

Peter loves our pens so much, he committed to donating $100 per pen, and was given five pens. This means Peter is donating a total of $500 to United Way of Northern BC this year.

But it’s not really about the pens.

Peter has worked for Canfor for over 26 years, and has supported United […]

United for BC Wildfires

As fires continue to devastate British Columbia, United Way is mobilizing efforts through “United for BC Wildfire Recovery,” a national initiative preparing for the recovery and rebuilding of communities across the province. “The fires continue to devastate; it’s a long process because it takes several months to recover and things have been just displaced for people. So United Way, as a joint group, has come together just to mitigate and close those gaps,” says Roberta Squire, CEO of United Way of Northern BC.

“We have supported the Red Cross over and over again, so it fits completely within our portfolio of what we do. We’ve even receive donations […]
