United Way of Northern BC Day of Caring® – Timken and The Salvation Army – Supporting the Food Bank Together

On Monday, September 17th, 2018, the United Way of Northern BC (UWNBC) planned a “Day of Caring®” with Timken and The Salvation Army.  Four volunteers from Timken assisted with date checking and sorting non-perishable food items for The Salvation Army’s Food Bank.  This is an important part of the process that ensures that The Salvation Army can get their donated produce onto the shelves in a timely manner.  This way, Food Bank guests are able to access produce and have their needs met efficiently.

“Last year 22,000 pounds of food was collected and sorted – we hope to meet or exceed this goal again!  This will provide much needed food for our Food Bank guests.” says Sharon Harder, Volunteer Coordinator with The Salvation Army.

“The Timken Company has a great working relationship with the United Way of Northern BC and enjoys working together on community projects such as these to help build Healthy People, Strong Communities where we live and work.” Says Sarah Roberge, Planning Analyst, Timken.

A Day of Caring® is a United Way initiative of mobilizing local businesses, organizations and corporations to assist local non-profits, or individuals with limited ability, to complete essential tasks or projects that otherwise the non-profit may not have the capacity to accomplish.  United Way of Northern BC connects those in need with corporate volunteers by identifying the needs of the community. It allows organizations to invest in their communities and promote volunteerism and teamwork within their organizations. Organizations and staff can be left with a sense of pride in strengthening the communities in which they live and work, raise their families and where they may eventually retire one day.
