Spectra Energy & Speedee Printers Participate in United Way Day of Caring

This summer, Spectra Energy and Speedee Printers teamed up to provide six Terrace non-profits with office equipment from the recently closed Spectra Energy office in Terrace.

Ksan House Society, Kermode Friendship Centre, Kitsumkalum Band, the Terrace Women’s Resource Centre Society, Volunteer Terrace and United Way of Northern BC were all beneficiaries of thousands of dollars’ worth of office furniture and appliances.

Speedee Printers, now Mills Office Productivity, was on scene to provide over four hours of dismantling, moving and setting up the donated furniture at the grateful non-profits.

One of United Way of Northern BC’s pillars is to build healthy people and strong communities, and one of the best ways to do that is by investing in local social service agencies.

Graham Genge from Spectra Energy was pleased with the donation saying, “It’s great that we had the ability to donate our office furniture to these local non-profits. They just do so […]

RBC Gives Fresh Coat of Paint to Big Brothers Big Sisters

The United Way of Northern BC (UWNBC), and its weekly Day of Caring community outreach program, partnered with local RBC employees Saturday morning.

They exchanged pens for paintbrushes to help Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince George (BBBSPG) refurbish its office as part of on-going renovations.

RBC Financial Advisor Jane McIntosh says it’s important to help build up the community, especially for programs involving youth.

“It’s been about a six-month process to get them back in their offices. We’re all very close, we’re all very committed to helping our community strive and prosper, and helping companies and societies in need of some volunteer time.”

Last year, BBBSPG’s building experienced a flooding incident that damaged most of the rooms except for the main boardroom.

McIntosh believes giving up a sunny Saturday to volunteer is worth the hard work.

“We do various things in the community throughout the year. Two weeks ago, we were helping dig the garden at the Child Development […]

Progress Energy’s Day of Caring® at Abbeyfield Houses

On May 24, a crew of volunteers from Progress Energy once again did an amazing Days of Caring® at Abbeyfield Houses of Fort St John, a facility for seniors.

Volunteers cleaned up the garden, hauled garden waste to the dump, cut the grass and trimmed with a weed whacker.

“Thanks to Suzanne Armstrong and Julie Bourdon of Progress Energy who helped make this happen by organizing volunteers to help out on such a great day and getting so much done through the United Way of Northern BC Days of Caring®,” said Niki Hedges. “Combining social giving efforts and volunteering allows us to do so much more; to be more responsive, and to help benefit the community. No individual or organization can solve our local community’s problems alone in supporting children, youth, individuals and families, our aging population of seniors and people with disabilities, our friends, neighbors and colleagues. UWNBC and our partners work together […]

BMO and CIBC Team Up for United Way Day of Caring

Kitimat – On Saturday June 3, employees from BMO and CIBC gave back to the Kitimat community by spending several hours weeding and beautifying gardens for seniors in the Better at Home program.

The Better at Home program is a United Way-managed program that helps seniors with simple day-to-day tasks so they can continue to live independently in their own homes and remain connected to their communities.

Volunteers worked hard to take out several bags of weeds and lawn clippings that the seniors were not able to tackle themselves due to mobility issues.

Mrs. Irving, pictured, was very thankful for all their hard work on her garden. “It was so fantastic they came! They did such an amazing job.”

Kyle’s No Frills generously donated soil to the volunteer effort and the District of Kitimat donated the use of their gardening tools.

For Lindsey Larsen, North West Community Development Officer of United Way of Northern BC, it […]
