United Way of Northern BC Day of Caring® – TD Bank volunteers help out at Ride Don’t Hide.

On Sunday, 23 June 2019, from 7am to 12 noon, United Way Northern BC volunteers will be helping out at the “Ride Don’t Hide” organized by Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Prince George Branch.

This fun event will start at CN Centre parking lot. The event is to raise funds, bust the stigma associated with mental health and addictions, bring mental health out into the open and build awareness. We know that one in five people will develop a mental health problem in their lives. Volunteers can choose which areas they would like to help out in – traffic control, check ins, kid zone, safety checks, water stations.

United Way of Northern BC, Spinal Cord Injury BC and the United Steelworkers Local 1-2017, welcome Paralympic athlete, Marni Abbott-Peter to Prince George’s first ever Multi-Sport Day

On Saturday, 22 June 2019, from 12:00 to 4:00 pm, United Way Northern BC volunteers will be helping out at the Multi-Sport Day organized by Spinal Cord Injury BC.

This FREE and fun event for the entire family will be held at Masich Place Stadium, Carrie Jane Gray Park basketball and tennis courts.
Paralympic athlete, Marnie Abbott-Peter, Let’s Play Director, will be on hand to share her passion for adapted sports. She is dedicated to helping children with mobility related physical disabilities across British Columbia to become physically active early in life, to develop physical literacy skills so they can confidently participate in play, sport and physical education with their peers.

Everyone is welcome to try out adapted sports and inclusive activities such as: Wheelchair racing, Seated throws, Wheelchair tennis, Wheelchair basketball, Wheelchair rugby and more.

Kearns named Honorary Chair of 2019 Commonwealth Cup!

Veteran Canuck Alumni Dennis Kearns was named Honorary Chair of the 12th Annual Commonwealth Cup 2019, brought to you by HSJ Lawyers.

Kearns made his NHL debut in 1971 with the Vancouver Canucks. He would, over the next 10-years become a star playmaker with extraordinary skill on offense and the power play. With 321 points and 677 NHL games under his belt, in 2014 the Vancouver Province rated Kearns as the 15th Greatest Canuck of all time.

“The Vancouver Canuck Alumni have been attending the Commonwealth Cup almost from its inception – 14 years ago. We always have a great time in Prince George and the United Way is a terrific cause.”, said Kearns from Vancouver.

United Way of Northern BC has been declared as the charity of choice. The United Way is Northern BC’s premier umbrella charity. They raise money for more than 500 programs across Northern BC.

Tailgate Party Prior to the Mega 50/50

It was great to have a fantastic turn out at the Tailgate party prior to the PG Cougars game on March 9th, 2019.

Our board member, Stephanie from HSJ was live on location with 94.3 the Goat

Things were buzzing down at the CN centre. Community members were able to grab a burger, visit the petting zoo and get their face painted too!

United Way of Northern BC Community Investment Grant awarded to Spinal Cord Injury BC

Prince George, BC – United Way of Northern BC (UWNBC) is pleased to announce that it has awarded a $7,000 grant to Spinal Cord Injury BC (SCI BC) for its Northern Peer Support Program for 2018-2019 funding cycle.

Each year not-for-profit agencies, that provide community social programming, are able to apply for Community Investment Funding from the United Way.  UWNBC focuses on three main pillars – to move people From poverty to possibility;  develop Healthy people, strong communities and to allow children to develop into All that kids can be.
