CKPG Media for the Tailgate Party

Pre-game Cougars tailgate party to benefit United Way

PRINCE GEORGE- The Prince George Cougars game on Saturday will have a lot going on aside from the on-ice activities. United Way of Northern B.C. is hosting a tailgate party outside of the CN Centre. There are a variety of events that will be on hand as part of the festivities.

The Prince George Animal Rescue will have a petting zoo, Mr Mikes will be providing burgers for a BBQ, face painting will be provided by MP Make-up Artistry along with many more activities.

A 50/50 will also be at the event with net proceeds benefitting United Way and people can have their chance to get a magic key that unlocks a treasure box with over $1000 in prizes up for grabs.

The event runs from 12-6 p.m. outside the CN Centre. Click here to see the video coverage.

Thank you to the City of PG and the PG Cougars

Congrats to the PG Cougars on the big win! Big thanks to Mr.Mike’s and Wood Wheaton Superstores for sponsoring the Mega 50/50 last night. Also thanks to HYPG for helping us kick off the evening by celebrating their 5th Anniversary at the tailgate party. Thank you to all the volunteers from the family of agencies we support! Tailgate Party Prior to the Mega 50/50

It was great to have a fantastic turn out at the Tailgate party prior to the PG Cougars game on March 9th, 2019.

Our board member, Stephanie from HSJ was live on location with 94.3 the Goat

Things were buzzing down at the CN centre. Community members were able to grab a burger, visit the petting zoo and get their face painted too!

Rose overcame mental health struggles with the help of a United Way tutoring program

“Growing up was tough—I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety as a kid. By the time I was a teenager, most days I just wanted to sleep all day, rather than face the world. I couldn’t eat, shower or even brush my teeth.

In grade nine, I started attending a United Way-funded tutoring and mentoring program after school, and the support I had there made such a big difference.
During high school, my family struggled with poverty, which made life very hard. After we paid for rent or other necessities, sometimes we couldn’t afford to pay our heating bill, or had no money left over for food.

A Place to Find Comfort

When Nuhaa’s family first moved to Canada, it was a difficult adjustment. But a United Way program made it easier.

“I was born in Syria, but when I was four, my family had to leave because it was too dangerous there. So we went to Jordan. I liked it there because my grandparents and aunts and uncles would spend summers with us. When I was eight, we moved to Canada because my parents thought we could have a better life here.

Coming to Canada was not good and not bad. I was excited about meeting other people, but I missed my family and I was scared of going to school because I was shy. I was afraid nobody would want to play with me or be my friend because I didn’t speak English.
